A box of tomato selling previously at GHc 450.00 has jumped to GHc 800.00 due to the recent strike of the Tomato drivers in Ghana.
According to the drivers who ply from Ghana to Burkina Faso through expert and import of tomato, their colleagues are been killed on the road due to lack of security escort.
Speaking to one of the drivers on the Silver Omanbapa Morning Show, monitored by Africannewsgh, Stephen Amelu told Nana Ampratwum that, six drivers have met their untimely demise under the hands of armed robbers on the Ghana-Burkina road.
He said the security can help salvage the situation but have turned deaf ears to their grievances hence the decision to strike.
On this note, Silver news correspondent, Agyeiwaa visited Central Market tomato traders to solicit their views over the matter.
According to them, the situation has compelled them to increase the price of tomato.
They said a box of tomato which was sold at GHc 450.00 is now selling at GHc800.00.
The traders are therefore pleading to the govrnment to intervene before the shortage escalate.
They also said, because of the high prices of the tomatoes costomers now preffer using tomato paste rather to fresh tomatoes.
