Chief Executive Officer for Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Dr. Oheneba Danso has revealed that, the maternity block will be rebuild within the shortest possible of time after the demolition have been done.
According to him, the contractor has already finished with the design of the new maternity block.
The multi-structure Maternity and Children’s Block at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, stalled for 45 years, is to be pulled down for reconstruction after failing a structural integrity test.
Sources close to the Hospital and the Ministry of Health say a team of engineers found sections of the structure to be weak with brittle concrete and rusty iron rods.
This will be the second time the structure will be pulled down for failing a structural integrity test.
Dr. Danso added that, they cannot risk live and a huge investment in the future hence the need for them to demolish the building to pave way for a new and strong building.
He noted that, the structure will be done on the same place after the demolition has been done.
He made this known during the Year of Nurse and Midwife launch at the forecourt of KATH.
“The building will have about 700 to 800 bed capacity compared to the previous one”,he said.
